Nigeria/Ethiopia: Emenike Braces Nigeria Into Victory Against Ethiopia

A brace from Nigeria's striker, Emmanuel Emenike was good enough to secure victory for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
In a game played in the Addis Ababa National Stadium on today, Emenike struck on the 66th and 90th minutes to put the Eagles at advantage ahead of the return leg in Calabar on 16th of November 2013.
The Ethiopians took the game to the Eagles from the start of the game and had two corner kicks within the first five minutes in quick succession.
Soon after, the host nearly got the lead as Sahid controlled well from a long range pass from his half, before beating Enyeama easily to slot home.
However, Godfrey Oboabona was fast to clear the goal-bound strike off the line to deny Sahid who was already celebrating his goal.
After the interval, the hosts continued threatening and Assefa put them ahead in the 56th minute with a cross from the left hand side that found its way into the net after catching Nigeria's goal keeper, Vincent Enyeama off his line.
But ten minutes later, Emenike restored parity for the Eagles when he blasted home an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
Earlier, Moses almost levelled for the Eagles on the 62nd minute after getting a through ball from Emenike in the midfield but the Ethiopian keeper was well placed to prevent the winger.
In the 64th minute, the Eagles' coach, Stephen Keshi made some tactical substitutes by bringing in Nosa Igiebor for the tired Nnamdi Oduamadi and Brown Ideye for Victor Moses.
The changes had an immediate impact as Emenike powered home just a minute later to level for the Nigerians.
The hosts rallied round to restore their lead with the home supporters solidly behind their team but it was the Eagles that looked likely to add their second.
A penalty appeal by Nigeria when Ahmed Musa was tripped in the box on the 75th minute was waved off by the referee.
A minute later, Musa nearly added his own goal but his strike came off the woodwork after a great pass from Mikel Obi.
Nigeria would however get their most desired lead when Ethiopian Aynalem Hailu brought Emenike down in the box in the 89th minute of play.
The giant striker stepped up to coolly convert from the spot by sending the Ethiopian goal tender the wrong side.
