The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) will hold its
elections on October 8, five days before the playoff clash against
African champions Nigeria.
The General Assembly decided on the date despite calls to postpone them to avoid divided focus on the important game between Walia and the Super Eagles that will be played on October 13 at the National Stadium in Addis Ababa.
The elections which will be held at the Sheraton hotel Addis have seen five new faces declare interest for the top post currently held by Sahlu Gebremariam who just two weeks ago told supersport.com he would only vie if Ethiopia beat Central Africa Republic in the last match of their World Cup qualifier played in Brazzaville Congo.
All candidates vying for different posts will be known on Saturday as all the executive members are expected to vacate their positions and re-apply for elections.
Supersport.com has confirmed that EFF Vice President Asfaw Tessema Teka will be running for the president’s post against his current boss in what is expected to be a bruising battle.
Many pundits and football fans in Ethiopia have voiced different opinions with most calling on the postponement for the fear that the elections will disturb the apple cart coming just 96 hours before the crunch match against Nigeria.
