Ethiopia: Gibe III Hydroelectric Project Nears Completion
Efforts are underway to launch first phase
power generation of Gibe III Hydroelectric Project within a year,
project manager Azeb Asnake has told ERTA. According to Azeb, various
construction phases of Gibe III which is expected to enhance the current
energy capacity of Ethiopia by 94 percent are nearing completion.
Gibe III high kilo volt electric transmission line had already been completed while the power house concrete work is underway. Over six thousand employees are working on shift basis at Gibe III site out of which more than 90 percent are Ethiopians. Public Relations Director with the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation, Miskir Negash says significant knowledge and technology transfer has been gained from the Project.
Gibe III Hydroelectric will have an installed capacity of 1870 MW when it goes fully operational.
