UMD Students Fight Water Crisis in Ethiopia
Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- With the help of the Duluth Rotary Club and several other local community members, students at UMD are doing all they can to fight the water crisis in Ethiopia.
Students, staff and community members gathered at UMD's Griggs center to educate others on the Ethiopian water shortage.
They plan to raise funds for the cause and donate them to the Global Team for Local Initiatives.
The founder of the group, Linda Pappas states, "Of the 129 wells installed in the past decade, less than ten of them were still working."
Most students involved are of Ethiopian ancestry and say the crisis affects them on a personal level.

"The fact that we're Ethiopian students, I feel it hits that much closer to home, just to be reminded of where we came from...
We need to use our freedoms that we have gained here and leverage them over by helping out in any way that we can," Nahom Abegaze, a UMD student.

On February 9th at the Malosky Stadium, UMD will host the Angels for a Cause fundraiser, where they hope to get 9,000 people to attempt to break the world record for making snow angels.
The recommended donation to participate is 5 dollars per person and 10 dollars a family.
The current record for making now angels is 8,963 set in North Dakota.
