Kenya: Hunt On for Ethiopian Militia Who Killed Cops
Police have been deployed around Lake Turkana following the Friday abduction and killing of four Kenya Police Reservists. The four were fishing when they went missing and their bodies later found at Todonyang area near the Ethiopia border.
Their speedboat was stolen in the attack. Police suspect the raiders were Merrile militiamen from Ethiopia. Locals said the victims were shot dead inside Ethiopia and their bodies dumped near the border. Kibish DC Erick Wanyonyi led a security team to
Ethiopia at the weekend. "We have given the Ethiopian authorities a stern warning to stop the militiamen from raiding our territory," he said. Wanyonyi said the militiamen have been invading the Kenyan side of the lake and stealing 12,000 tonnes of fish every week. He said the security personnel deployed will crack down on the illegal incursions.
Several families have fled their lakeside homes due to insecurity. Yesterday heavily armed officers including the GSU and anti-stock theft personnel were patrolling the border. Wanyonyi has urged locals to remain calm.
