Ethiopian Man, Burundi Woman First to Finish Bay to Breakers Race

The annual footrace through San Francisco attracted an estimated 30,000 participants.

Runners from Ethiopia and Burundi were first to cross the finish line in the 102nd Bay to Breakers Race on Sunday morning, according to preliminary results.  

Ethiopian Tolossa Gedefa Fufi was the top male runner, completing the 7.46-mile course through San Francisco in 35 minutes and 1 second, race spokeswoman DeeDee Taft said. 
The second fastest in the men's competition was American Ryan Hall, with a course time of 35 minutes and 40 seconds.  

On the women's side, Burundi athlete Diane Nukuri-Johnson finished first, running the course in 40 minutes and 12 seconds, according to preliminary results.

Adrienne Herzog of the Netherlands came in second with a time of 40 minutes and 42 seconds.  

The race started at 7 a.m. and attracted more than 30,000 participants many of whom continued to make their way from the South of Market neighborhood to Ocean Beach throughout Sunday morning.
