Chitradurga self-help groups impress Ethiopian team

Poverty-stricken Ethiopia, an African country, is making all efforts for empowerment of people and Indian model of self-help groups (SHGs) has come handy in its way of development.
A team led by Country Director of Send A Cow Ethiopia Aklilu Dogisso, Gender and Social Development Co-ordinators Ida Mikisa Hadoto and Nighsta is touring the district to study about the rapid progress made by SHGs.
With an intention of increasing, stabilising the SHGs in their country by replicating the success models of the MYRADA in Chitradurga, the team is on a visit to the district from May 12 to 24.
During the visit, the team studied about the income generation activities like production of Vermicompost, petty shop, flour mill, incense sticks  preparation, water conservation activities, comprehensive horticultural development in small holdings and other activities.
The team also visited the Pragathi Grameen Bank and learnt about credit to SHGs and suggest the modules to the banks in their country.
MYRADA that started the SHGs in early 1980s made rapid progress by introducing federations and CMRC modules in them and showed the society how micro finance can be effectively implemented.
Aklilu Dogisso said, “Creation of federations and CMRC modules by MYRADA is really a unique one and we are impressed by this module. Once we get back to our country, the model will be replicated.”
Dogisso also said all the models implemented by MYRADA in Chitradurga are unique and they will be implemented in their country completely.
