Mayday Sugar Dam over by 14

 per cent

Wolkait Sugar Development Project is now going on very well after
resolving challenges like the absence of road and resettlement of
 communities around the project area.

A Chinese Engineering Company takes the contract to install the factory
with a capacity to process 24 thousand tons of sugarcane per day.

The installation will have two phases, and will consume 18 months
to finish; this is according to figures on the project agreement
document.

The sugar plantation will basically be developed with water from
zarema river, and the dam under construction is assumed to
irrigate 45 thousands hectare of land.

Sur Construction completed 14 per cent of the dam project so far.
Metal and Engineering Corporation subcontracted Sur Construction
to develop the dam for the plantation.

The subcontractor is expected to finalize the river diversion works
with in the coming two months to begin the actual dam
construction process, reports show.

The dam is designed to be 845 meters wide and 142 meters high
with water holding capacity of 3.8 billion cubic meters.

The dam is scheduled to come to end by 2014/15. Yet another
alternative small dam is compete and used to grow sugar
plantation which would be input as soon as the factory
 installation is over.

With the alternative dam an estimated 3,000 hectares of land is going to be developed. Besides, there is a plan to use Tekeze water resources to develop another 7 thousand hectares of sugar plantation.

When the Wolkait Sugar Plantation begins production with full capacity, it can make 484 thousand ton of sugar per yer.
