Somalia: Puntland Leader On Visit to Ethiopia
The President of Somalia's Puntland Government Abdirahman Mohamed Farole is on visit to neighbouring Ethiopia after concluding a week-long trip to Kenyan capital of Nairobi, Garowe Online reports.
President Farole's delegation including Health Minister Dr. Ali Abdullahi Warsame and Presidential officials arrived in Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on Monday.
Before jetting off to Addis Ababa Farole held talks with the leader of Jubba Interim Administration Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) in Nairobi where the two discussed the recent agreement signed by Federal Government of Somalia and Jubba delegation in Ethiopia under the auspices of IGAD.
Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Tewodros Adhanom on Monday evening hosted President Farole and his delegation at Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa for dinner and both sides expressed their delight with "Jubba Agreement" in which Adhanom played a vital role as the chair of IGAD foreigner ministers.
According to independent sources in Addis Ababa, the bilateral discussions covered various topics regarding the restoration of peace and stability across Somalia and to strengthen the ties by continuing to cooperate vigorously.
President Farole thanked Ethiopian government for offering moral and material support to Somalis and working for the elimination of security threats emanating from extremists operating in southern Somalia.
On his side, Adhanom expressed his profound joy over the immanent role played by Puntland people and their government in an effort to set up permanent government in Somalia and their regular support and contribution to regain recovery after years of turmoil and civil unrest.
President Farole is scheduled to meet Wednesday with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemarium Desalegn.
