Ethiopia seek Black Stars friendly in Accra, Ghana

2014 World Cup hopefuls Ethiopia are hoping for a friendly with the Black Stars in Accra as part of preparations to battle African Champions Nigeria in Calabar for one of CAF’s five slots to the football Mundial in Brazil.

The Black Lions who qualified for the play-offs after topping group A of the 2nd round qualifiers will play home in the first leg before heading for the Cross River State of Nigeria for the ultimate showdown on November 16.

According to reports by Ethiopia's first Commercial, National Broadcaster and multilingual Radio Station Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), the country’s Football Federation has lined up three countries; Cameroon, Ghana and Zambia for friendlies as part of preparations for the two-legged World Cup play-off tie with Nigeria.

FBC further reports the Ethiopian Football Federation is in consultation with its Ghanaian counterpart to stage the friendly at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A date for the proposed friendly is however unknown. It remains to be seen if the Ghana FA will accept Ethiopia’s request after denying reports that the Black Stars were set to play Italy in London in October by insisting the Black Stars will only concentrate on their clash against Egypt next month.

The GFA have insisted the Black Stars are fully concentrating on their match against Egypt in the first-leg of the 2014 World Cup qualifying playoffs on October 13.
